Next zoom lens

I have a canon 1000d and on it is a tamron 70-300 zoom but it doesn't quite get the wildlife in range and wondered what my step would be,I'm thinking a 400mm but not the luxury range just a reasonable budget one so any recomendations please, Harvey

How about the Sigma 120-400 with OS? Not the fastest lens but decent enough and with the length you want.

IIRC the 120-400mm is around £650 new and the 150-500 is around £800-£850

Neither lens is particularly fast - if you shoot in low light you will stuggle. I have a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and a just got a Nikon 500mm AFS F4 but these aren't cheap!

To be honest I'll only be shooting during the day,looking in the magazines the money is way too expensive

I recently bought my Sigma 150-500 for £659 with three years warranty. It's a great lens, but quite heavy.
