Way back in 2009 ., i started a thread saying Nice letter from canon .. Some people told me to stop moaning and pay to have it repaired ..

This was after my 5d developed a fault after 6000 actions .. In the end Canon said they didn't know what had caused it but it was more down to tuff luck .. Their words on the phone .. So rather than pay the £285 they wanted , It went to Jessops ... After many letter and phone calls and a bill from jessops for £255 .. I had a nice letter today

Your camera is in chester has been repaired and is ready for collection .
Repaired free of charge ..

However ... it isn't quite over till the fat lady sings ...
My wife works in chester and went to collect it ... Chester branch say they haven't got it ... I called the repair team and they say Jessops chester booked it back in last Friday ... Now i have my fingers crossed they lose it and replace it with a MK 2 ..

Hopefully i will have my spare 5d back home by the end of the week ... It's been missed ............. It pays to know your rights and stick to your guns

Rog:thumbs:

Cheers guys :woot:

I must admit i came close to giving in or changing to Ni Ni Ni .... no dam it i can't say it Nik .... no  ..

But once we got through to the right person at Jessops and we pointed out our rights .. They sent a letter saying that we should forget 1 year or 2 as they have a commitment to the customers for 6 years .. Which is what i had said in the first place and been told by some i was wrong .. :rules: ..

I might sell one of em now and buy a 5d mk 2 .... Where from you ask ................. Jessops .. because they play by the book

I own Canon gear, but if one of my bodies died after 6k shots and they refused to repair it I would jump ship. Well done for getting it sorted.

Is it just me or is Canon way ahead of the other manufacturers for having an appalling rep for build quality? How many Canonites have suffered from grips failing and having to be hacksawed from the body? Each launch seems to be followed by multiple firmware releases to correct faults, and their customer service seems to be down the pan.

In the end, how long were you without your camera for?

Since September 2009 .... it is a second 5d so not the end of the world .. but a minor irritation ... It came down to 6000 actions not being fit for purpose and holding them to the letter of the law ... Rights are Rights at the end of the day ... Too many people give in to easy and too many company's don't know the law ..........

P.C WORLD is one place i will never shop in again ...

Jessops may be over priced , but they did what was Right ..

Watch out Nikon employees about

Well the grip attachment for a 30D is a f-ing p*** poor design, all metal apart from one tiny hidden plastic cog which is bound to break with even the slightest over tightening, and I know as it cost me £50 to get mine repaired, and if you search the web there are a LOT of folk who have had the same issue.

There is a firmware up date for the 1D IV yes that's right the one you can not yet buy.

Oh glad you got the 5D sorted for free.

jessops were pretty good about my 40D which failed with a shutter fault after approx 42K pics. Took them 8 weeks to admit they couldn't repair it, but they gave me vouchers for the cost of a new one, which is how I got my 50D
