As above really, ive got a crumpler rucksack for those heavy shooting when you need alot of kit, food drink and a spare jumper, but there are some days (like at the weekend) when i only wanted to take my camera and a battery or two and cleaning kit.

Which bag would you recomend to carry a gripped 40D and either 17-40L 17-85IS 24-105L or tamron 28-75 attached (not all at once, just the body grip one of the above lens' and a battery or two plus lens cleaning kit)

I like crumpler but not too fussed either way, just needs to be big enough for my kit, but not too big to make me think "ill leave it at home today"

thanks in advance!

I was going to say something like a muffin top 3000 but the problem comes when you put the grip on there, the body just won't fit so you have to look at the bigger bags or one of the holster type bags but I'm unsure which one will take a gripped body.

yeah thats was my thinking the grip would be the pain, but i like the feel of the camera with it on.

there must be a bag out there that will accomodate a gripped camera and lens! if not im going to make one lol!

Aslong as its waterproof incase i get caught out somewhere and fits the above id be happy! dont mind it being slightly on the large side but not huge! no bigger than it needs to be if you know what i mean!

I've had the same problem recently. I had a look at the smaller Billingham bags, Lowepro, Think Tank and so on, nothing will fit a gripped 50D with lens attached.

A bit fed up I wandered into PC World to stare at some Macs longingly (always cheers me up) and noticed they had some shoulder bags in - two sizes, they're black nylon with red piping, £15 and £20 depending on size. You can easily get a gripped 50D with lens attached in, with room for two more lenses or whatever either side. There is a further pocket in the front and one in the lid. They're a bit basic but for the price I thought I'd give one a whirl, and I've been pleasantly surprised - not bad at all in fact.

Thanks for the advice, will have a look in pcworld if i get a chance, trouble is i work long hours!

Anyone got any suggestions that could be purchased online? doesnt have to be really small, just not overly big for the above kit?!

Dunno if it's any help, but the internal dimensions of the Lowepro Nova 3 AW are 24cm(w)x12cm(d)x20cm(h) and it has the "AW" raincover. It'll easily deform to accommodate my 15cm wide camera with a lens at least 16cm in length.

The current Nova range are available in more colour options.

anythings a help i will investigate sizes tonight when i get home :)

i think its the grip thats causing the porblems :(

My largest DSLR is the same size as yours, but I don't use a grip. With the Nova 3 I can use a divider to make a shelf to cradle the lens attached to the camera, pointing across the width of the bag, somewhat like this.

If the shelf is the height of the grip, you'll have enough room under it for a flash and/or some accessories, but you've enough space to have it about halfway up the bag (10cm), which would be enough for some small lenses.

Alternatively, you can use the dividers with flaps to hold the camera lens-down like this, in which case the battery grip wouldn't allow the flash to fit in that position. If you do pack your camera like this, try to ensure some airspace or extra cushioning under the front end of the lens.

The front-to-back depth of the Nova 3 isn't enough for two fat lenses to fit side by side.

looks like the nova 3 could be a winner :) that or maybe the next size up (if there is one) as anything is better than my rucksack when wanting to travel light!

I will have to have a good investigate!

Thanks for the help :)

it would appear the nova 3 has been discontinued or renamed lol any help with what it is called now? lol

ah ha thanks for that :) I will have alook into both, maybe try the nova 170 to accomodate the grip a little better :)

The stated dimensions for the Nova 160 are a bit smaller than what I measured for my Nova 3. The Nova 180, with 24cm(w)x15cm(d)x20cm(h) has just that bit extra depth to make it more useful. On the other hand, some people complain if their bag sticks out too much.

I got the Nova 3 for £10 from rubooks, special offer during January. They're currently doing the Crumpler Daily 490 for £35 if you spend over £15 and use promotional code L21114.

I use a two Nova 5's when I want to take a lot of gear, or one for normal kit, so I don't have to lug around a Lowepro Commercial AW ;)

I saw that deal at RUbooks on the grabbit board of MSE forums, and so nearly ordered one, but then didnt, and now really wish I had :(

It would seem i missed out big time!!

I will have to begin the bargain hunt i think!
