Nifty fifty problem. (Nikon)

I attached my 50mm to my D3 today, I have not used it for a week so pop'd it on.
When I turn the camera on, the display on the camera flickers. You can use the dial wheel to change the settings but it takes a few turns just to make one change.

I put my 28-70mm and my 18-50mm on the camera and both are fine.

Had a quick look at the pins on the 50mm and they also look fine.

It has not been dropped (that I am aware of)

Any thoughts?

i can only think the contacts were dirty or miss aligned in some way.
Give the contacts a rub with brown paper bag (works for me lol) then try again.
failing that it might be a bit of dry solder on your circuit board.
