Hi all, I know this is probably a very simple answer but im confused.

Im getting married in December and were going to New York on honeymoon for a week. Obviously I am taking my camera however..... I currently only have the standard kit lens 18-55mm with my eos1000d and a 70-300mm tameron. I have read posts of people talking of nifty fiftys as a quick lens and a good all rounder. so the question I ask... ive looked on ebay and theres a couple of options fd and ef? whats the difference? reading between the lines im guessing its something to do with the fitment on the camera? Which lens am I looking for to bid on ebay as the correct one for my camera?

Would the nifty be a good lens to use for shots around new york or would people be inclined to get something else? I cant spend too much or the future wife will kill me lol!

im still learning so sorry for the questions.

many thanks for any help
Rob

fd is the old film system and wont work on your camera you only want the EF Lens

You want ef.

If you can afford it (which at the moment I can't), you might like a wide lens for buildings and street shots?

Have fun in NY!

As they said ef.
I would take your kit lens. whilst the 50 would give better results it's not quite wide enough. and your kit lens is quite able to give you an excellent record. Have a ball.

Hi. Try KERSO's ebay shop HERE He sells nifty's for £70 for forum members!

I have a photographic memory that was never developed

The nifty will be great for portraits, but you will absolutely need the 18mm on the kits lens to capture the city :)

If you have the cash spare to buy a Nifty Fifty then I'd buy it and take that and the 18-55 as that should cover most things you need. General shooting with the 18-55 and the nifty fifty for low light scenes.

Kerso at £70 would be a good buy! It's $100 at B&H in New York (£68) and about £81 at Amazon UK. So there's no advantage in buying when you go over there. And he's absolutely straight, no danger there.

smashing stuff, i like seeing the typical b+w shots and pics of the cabs etc. hoping to get some good ones as a memory and wouldnt mind some for the wall at home etc.

I dont think I could afford an 18mm lol. however a wedding present hhmmmmm sigma 10-20 please lol

Re nifty - just get one. Super-cheap, great low light and narrow depth of field and super sharp at f8.

Will give you some great narrow depth of field portraits with your new lady. The travelling nifty has been to NY already, to give you some ideas of what it can do, http://www.nifty50ontour.co.uk/.

Re Kerso - you won't go wrong there, just got a 70-200 F4L from him, ordered friday morning arrived saturday morning
