Hey Guys
I have a new Canon 50mm f.1.4 and im having real trouble with the auto focus in darker shots.
They are coming out very blurry
Any ideas
Im really worried that there is something wrong with the lens!?!?!

If it's dark, your auto focus will struggle. Using a torch or another light source to illuminate your target, then focus, switch the lens to MF, turn the light off and take the shot. I don't know of any lens that will take photos in the dark using AF there has to be some light for the AF to work. So darker shots will suffer also.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Have you got it wide open? - At 1.4 you've got an extremely narrow DOF and it's not very forgiving. If it's dark (or not bright) your lens will have trouble deciding what to focus on anyhow.
You could try shining a torch, or similar at your subject to focus, and then lock it off in manual before recomposing for exposure without the torch.

You never said, but I'm assuming that it's focussing OK in brighter shots?

Well dark is the wrong word, its just not bright.
Its in my room under a light but it has a very soft orange feel too it,
making the room not very bright
Its just I was planning on using this in nightclubs and stuff will i be able to manual focus ok?

yeh its focusing Ok in brighter shots :)
 
Gary with that large an aperture, and Dim conditions (such as indoors with lamps on (or nightclubs I guess - bit too old for them these days) I tend to manual focus anyway. Takes a bit of practice, but as long as you can see it, you should be able to focus it.

To be honest though, even with it wide open, you're going to get a fair amount of movement in clubs and whatnot unless you're at a really high ISO and can get a good shutterspeed.

Just seen where you are - you sure you want to take a camera into any of the clubs round there?????????
