I`ve seen night sky shots such as fireworks or stars and wondered what is the focus point? With the moon there at least is something to focus on

I've only shot fireworks a couple of times but focusing wise I tried to pick up on a light somewhere near where the display was happening, it turned out that that point set the lens to infinity anyway

Once you've got this set, change the lens to manual focus so the focus is effectively locked.

I normally use ISO100/200, F8.0 and use Bulb with a remote release cable, leaving the shutter open for a few seconds at a time. You can also cover the lens with something to capture multiple "bursts" in one shot ;)

The only problem with this method is that if it's windy the fireworks can look a little "streaky" but some people like that effect
