Hi Folks,
Just been out taking some night sky pics, bit unsure on the best settings went for 30secs at f8 set lens to infinity at 20mm), do i need a longer exposure? looked a bit dim athough got more stars than i could see by eye. It was hardly a star field

Nope, you'll get trailing. You want to have a wider aperture and a higher ISO.
