Nik 24-70 alternative?

So I really want the Nik 24-70/2.8 but I won't be in a position to buy one for a couple of years (unless the money fairy comes my way). Since Christmas isn't too far away I've started investigating whether there might be any suitable alternatives at a reasonable price. I'm specifically looking for a fast mid zoom with 2.8 throughout. It must be sharp at 2.8 throughout the focal range as I shoot mostly at the long end at large aperture on my current 18-70. What's your views on the current alternatives? Just had a quick look at the Tammy 28-75 but wondered about the Siggy alternatives (there seems to be quite a price difference between the various Siggy's). I'll be buying used most probably.
 
Not sure if it's really to your specification but will post incase it helps. The Nikon 17-55 2.8 is incredibly sharp throughout and if you buy used saves a few quid on the 24-70.

Not as long in focal length as the others which you mention but makes up for it in build quality etc. I use it 90% of the time on my D300s and love it.
 
Nikon 17-55 f2.8 is a good shout, but may not be long enough, cracking lens though.

The older 28-70 f2.8 Nikon was always well regarded, or it's predecessor the 35-70 f2.8, the latter should be around £300 used.
 
I don't have any experience of the Siggy but can wholeheartedly recommend the Tammy 28-75/2.8 - it's my favourite lens at the moment, although it takes some practice to get the best out of it.

Like many f/2.8 lenses it is slightly soft when wide open but not serously so.

I can vouch for the 35-70mm 2.8 cracking lens for the money,may not be wide enough for you though.
 
To be honest, I think the other Nik options will be a bit steep, and I think 28 would be as long as I'd go at this stage.

How bad is the softness on the tammy at 2.8? How's the bokeh?
 
Tamron 28-75 2.8 is a great performer and gets my vote, I've had two and they were both sharp at 2.8. Nikon gets you better build quality, faster AF (especially in low light) but on IQ alone there's very little in it.
