NIK Collection 9

I've just received an email letting me know that DXO have releases NIK Collection 9. At an upgrade price of US$99.99 which is about AU$140 this just too much to pay for an upgrade. I have been using NIK since Version 5 and have always paid, but no more.
Anyone else feel that they are just gouging loyal customers?

Does the existing version continue to work if you don't upgrade, also are there $100 worth of new features in the upgrade?

Software makers are trying to increase returns, as we've seen with Adobe's altered packages/pricing structure. It's just business really, but you might be better off skipping the upgrade for a year or 2.

Yes, the existing version will continue to work without being upgraded.
For the amount of time I use NIK I don't believe that there is AU$140 worth there. With the latest improvements to ACR and Photoshop I've been using NIK less and Less.

I continue to use PhotoLab 5 with Nik 4 and Affinity (now free).

Affinity is free, Nik 4 is no longer available but with searching the original Nik software can be found on the Internet for free.

I’m still using version 3. They want me to pay the full $179 to upgrade to version 8 I told them to shove it. I did get a pop up from my Mac saying something about silver efex won’t work with the next version of the Mac OS but until then I will just keep using version 3.

I still use the original free version of silver Efex - works fine.

The Google release of the Nik Collection worked most of the time with my Intel Macbook but not at all with the Apple Silicon processor, I did pay for V8 not so long ago and was offered the free upgrade to V9 which I have downloaded and I am using. Though I was not that used to using V8, I can not see much has changed with Silver Efex between V8 and V9.
