I still can't get over how good this lens is for it's price. I took this as I'd just had my paintwork detailed (forgot to dust off cloth lint... Doh.. need to retouch) and realised I'd left the 70-200 2.8 at work... so had to use the 70-300 f4-5.6 VR.... but I don't think it would be any better had I not forgotten it... not at f8 anyhow.

Amazing lens for the money.

That is quite ridiculous.

I always assumed my 70-300VR / D700 combo worked so well because of the large (and therefore forgiving) pixels but I guess not!

I do keep looking for lens upgrades but can never really justify it as it is so good and nice and light too.
 
£123.75p, nice, really nice detail, it's on my wish list, may have to settle for the 55-300mm VR though.

Yep... you read that right... £123 to tax a 4.6L V8 :)


Seriously... if you do not need the f2.8... this is a serious alternative. I have to warn you though, it's not quite this good wide open (but still impressive), but unless you shoot sports and need to shoot wide open I can't imagine a better value zoom lens of this type right now.
 
I could take a comparative shot of my car with the Tamron 70-300, but the only thing that would come close to your subject is the tax ends in the same month :D
