Have been offered one of these for £300 and it's the AF push/pull zoom.

I understand the optics are among the best out there but the AF can be a bit slow. Has anyone else experienced this at all?

I'm shooting with a D700.
 
From my experience you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. It depends upon how much you rely on fast AF. Have a play with it if at all possible to see if it meets your needs.

Might be worth checking out how easy it would be to repair given its age.

I did have one,and used it for many years from film to digtal.

Not as fast as my 70-200 VR,but for me it was still very good,and the price sound very good.

Give it a check over,and if everything working ok,i would go for it :)
