Hi guys
Anyone know where I can pick up either Duracell or Energizer spare batteries for my D5100? I can only find one or two links but they all seem to say NOT suitable for my camera :( Really don't want to splash out on a Nikon brand.

PS It gets worse - even the official Duracell website says their EN-EL14 is only for the P7000, not D3100/D5100.
What about the cheapest place to buy a few original Nikon ones, anyone?

I had to bite the bullet and buy a second genuine nikon en-el14 for my d5100 last week. About £38 on amazon. Going on safari at the end of this month and not worth taking the risk of some of the other cheaper alternatives.

Cheaper one's don't always mean worse, I purchased two unbranded replacements for my D5000 from Amazon last year for 13.95, and they both work as good as my official Nikon Battery :)
 
I think Nikon must have put battery-recognition in the D5100 and D3100 as there just aren't any third-party batteries for them. I'm quite surprised the Chinese manufacturers haven't cracked it by now.

Have a look at Bristol Cameras for new EN-EL14s.

Jonathan - Done a bit more research and I've came to the same conclusion as you. There are none. Not worth risking on anything else really as Philip pointed out (I'm hopefully going on safari too in a couple of months Philip :) ). Bristol cameras price is okay I guess.

I've been having the same issues. I've been hoping that a compatible battery would become available as I don't really want to spend too much. Looks like I'll have to though.

I had heard rumors that other compatible batteries would work in a battery grip, though not in the camera body itself - was disappointed to find that this wasn't true though :(

It's more than a rumour as I saw that exact claim in an ebay advert for a D5100 grip and batteries when I was checking my facts for my first posting in this thread. Might need to be that specific pairing, of course.
 
My batteries came though the post yesterday, 3 costing just over £100 from Bristol Cameras. Not sure how many shots I'll actually get per battery using my camera, hopefully more than my previous Nikon compact :)
 
Don't expect them to give their best until they've had several charge/discharge cycles.

I wish I could find my spare battery. I suspect it's buried somewhere on my desk so finding it is going to be a major effort. I shall have to go deskavating....
 
Just back from kenya on honeymoon including 4 days safari taking 3300 shots in total. Never needed my spare battery, no matter how many shots i took in one day it was still half full at night and then i charged it.
 
Hope everything went well and you had a great time, Philip. You shouldn't really think of the second battery as the spare but as the other one. The best way to treat them is to swap them every time you take one out of the camera. That way they get equal use which will prolong their lives.

I have four batterys which I use with my D200 and D700, they have all been numbered 1 to 4 and I use them all in that order.
