hi everyone
i am thinking to buy nikon 105 f2 D for portrait shooting. guys what do you think about this lens or maybe you can suggest something else? I have Nikon D300 camera

Some people use the 50mm f/1.8 or 1.4 and others say that the 85mm f/1.8 or 1.4 is really good.

So it's down to you really. Depends how close you are want to be the subject but get a fast lens so that you can create some nice DOF from the background and the subject.
 
105mm could be a bit long...maybe check the 85mm 1.4 out..
 
Yeah.... maybe the focal length is a bit long (as everyone is suggesting the 50 or 85mm) but.... and it's a HUGE BIG BUT..... the focus control and bokeh you can get and control has got to be seen to be believed... It truly is in a league of it's own..... a masterful tool for giving really arty control of focus, more precisely, defocus.

I'm assuming you mean 105mm f2 DC lens you mean?

It's been on the wish list of mine for ages!

Get the DC lens and step back a couple of paces! (y)
 
For portrait the 85mm F1.4 is arguably Nikon's best. Bokeh is stunning. It can be a little long on a cropped sensor, but a really superb lens.
