Is this lens suitable for capturing sports - runners/cyclists? I wouldn't expect there to be an issue but just thought I would put the question up to confirm. Thanks.

Just don't look at the 200/2 or the rare 300/2 :lol:
 
Its not a fast focusing lens unlike the Canon one. If it was, I'd buy one in a flash.

Definitely hire/borrow one and see if its suitable for what you want.
 
Isn't it a non AF-s lens?

So it's focus speed depends on how fast the motor in your D700 is
 
I've been dreaming about this lens for a while now!

Evidently the focus can be very hit and miss and you have to set the De-focus control before you focus,

I normally don't get excited about lenses being the latest and greatest, but if Nikon Released a AF-s, Nano coated version of this lens with more accurate AF I would be running a round the room like a over excited 5 years old until I fell over! :)
