Nikon 16-35 f4 on a D90?

Seems like an odd choice for a crop sensor.

For the same money or less you could buy a dedicated 2.8 midrange DX zoom, which would offer greater zoom range and probably be smaller...? Though would probably lack VR.
 
care to elaborate guys please? it's what I felt but needing some clarity of thought?

on another point, I have a 35f1.8 and 85f1.8 is there any advantage in getting the 50mm f1.4?
 
Well, even the 18-55 VR kit lens covers most of that range admirably well and at no more than a stop slower. 16mm isn't exactly very wide on a crop body so you're limiting yourself unnecessarily, if you want real wide angle then buy a proper wide angle lens like something that goes to 10 or 12mm.
 
the 16-35mm is an odd lens for me as I don't think it's long even on a crop sensor, even on a full frame I don't think it's neither long or wide enough for general use. I think it's too expensive for what is is especially on a crop sensor as on the long end you're looking at around 50mm, the 17-55mm will probably give you the extra reach and is also faster but quite a bit more heavier. I had the 17-55mm in the past but sold it due to it's weight, with that money bought the nikon 16-85mm and 35mm 1.8 g and still had money left. for outdoors and general use I use the 16-85mm and indoors/low light both the 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.4d are fantastic.
