Hi All

I have been an original 18-200 VR lens (not the one with zoom lock) for £275 via a friend of a friend.

Good deal or not???? Had a look on ebay and they seem to be a little more expensive and I guess you never know what you are getting!

Thoughts?
 
Yep, if it's in good working order and comes with a hood and caps (surprisingly expensive) then that's a good price. A nice versatile lens too.
 
This lens has 2 downfalls...

135mm is noticeably soft at the edges.

Pronounced barrel distortion at 18mm.

If you can live with that it's a fantastic lens, very sharp wide open, fast focusing, close focus down to 20".

Out of all of the lenses I've owned this is my favourite and at that price you'd be silly not to :)
 
Got it for £265 as it had no hood.

Do I need a hood?
 
It was my favourite lens too at DX but now I'm going FX only mine is up for sale too :)

The 18-200 VR1 is a bargain at that price as there is no real advantage in the VR2 model. The VR2 has a lock on the zoom but you normally have your hand on the barrel anyway when you are zooming in and out so it can't actually move anyway plus it only holds it in one place. If this was FX I'd keep it for the camera I get to replace the D300 which I'm selling too :D
 
The 18-200 and 35 was my preferred set-up for my D5000. Like any superzoom, it's a compromise, but having come from the 18-105 I never felt like it was a compromise for me. If I ever went back to a DSLR I'd get one in a shot.
 
This lens and my Sigma 10-20 travels all over the world with me producing some great images. You do need a hood as this will protect the front element of the lens.
 
Thanks all, just ordered hood for £6 off ebay.

Can't wait for the weekend now!!!
