Nikon 18-55 AF-S DX GII kit lens owners ...?

could you do a test for me please?? lens off camera

when I extend the lens to 200mm on my 55-200 AF-S *VR* it is absolutely rock steady......
there is no up/down, sideways nor any rotational movement at all - whatsoever!

the kit lens, in the title, is different................:shake:

in AF mode at 18mm or 55mm setting, there is a slight rocking movement up/down, and sideways and a slight rotational movement of 1-2 degrees

does yours do the same ??..............thanks

Just tried it. I take it you mean the extended part of the lens beyond the zoom ring?

18-55 GII - same as yours
18-55 VR - some movement but less
55-200 VR - no movement

I guess the cheap kit lens are built to a price.
Still great optically though.

Thanks - bit concerned that the slight movement would affect IQ
but you are right - IQ appears fine............

ps ............plan to upgrade to D90
sell D40 with 18-55 and buy 18-55VR ?? ..or.. keep 15-55 for the D90 ??

as you have both -- is the VR noticeable at shorter focal lengths ?

Replied in your other thread but I do like the VR as you can turn off the flash and get a couple more stops in low light.
