Nikon 18-70 lens help....

Hi,

I just recently purchased a used camera, and got an 18-70mm lens and it does not seem to be working - the autofocus part. I am just new to the dslr world and was wondering could anyone tell me if its the lens or me.

When i press the shutter release the motor seems to make a noise and the ring that tells you the zoom seems to stick about thirty eight. it goes backwards and forwads and does not always take a picture.

I can work fine with the 18-55 and no problems at all, any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

The 18-70 DX doesn't focus at close as the 18-55 so make sure you are not focusing too close. Try a good AF target (car number plate etc) from about 8 feet away. It should focus immediately, with no hunting.

Could be worth cleaning the contacts on the lens aswell just incase
