Just wondered if anyone has any oppinions or has used this lens?
 
I used to have one in the film days and it performed exactly as a 20mm on 35mm film should perform. It's a seriously old design now - I probably bought mine in 1991 when it would have just been AF but I don't think the optical design changed when it became AF-D and may not have changed going from AIS to AF.

Thanks Jonathan, seems like an ideal prime for landscapey stuff but no one really shouting about them? Seen some interesting results on flickr but mixed reviews on the net.
I think its one to forget about especially on a cropped sensor.
 
I've just got one (af-d) but mine is on a FF (D700) thou - you might be better off going for a new 35mm af-s which I would imagine is a fair bit cheaper new than a used 20mm AF-D...

As the 20mm on a cropped camera would give you about 32mm.... Althou the two would AF on your D7000...

That's not right, 20mm on a cropper would give the same field of view as 30mm on FF, the 35mm DX on a cropper has the same field of view as a 52.5mm lens would on FF.

I've just sold my 20mm AF on here, excellent lens on FF and only really selling as I found that I need the flexibility of a zoom at the wide end, a few mm makes such a difference to perspective.

Ahh correction I have the 35 I thought you meant a new 20

:thinking: Its a 2mm difference John & I did say that it was "about" 32mm (as I went on the basis of a crop sensor being 1.6 & not 1.5 - as couldn't remember which one the Nikon was)...

:D Also it was me that brought your Nikon 20mm AF-D :naughty:

Noooo I ment a "new" 35mm as in "buy a new" 32mm - compared to a used 20mm....

It was the bit after the part you emboldened I was taking issue with, you were saying he may as well go for the 35mm DX as it was near to what the 20mm would be on a crop, but you need to factor in the crop with the 35mm DX lens as well. There is a huge difference in field of view between a 20mm lens and 35mm if they're both on a crop body.

Mine was an AF, not AF-D, and I'm sure I posted it to someone else today :cool:

Trig - get yer eyes tested! (how can you forget me so soon - I feel used :bat:)

The 20mm is great - used it loads on the D700 for landscapes and 'fun' pics - back in the day I had one doing press work for tight interiors and the old cheque presentation... :gag:

:$ my only excuse is that theres so many user names now that are so similar to others - that I just get people mixed up..... I do apologize :bonk:

Its an age thing - :eek: Ohhh and its my birthday tomorrow so another year older so that means more forth coming mistakes :lol:
