Hi Guys. As per title, are these lenses really as bad as people say. I'm looking to buy something of this size for my D700 & D300 or would a 24-85 or 28-105 be better. Can't really afford the 24-120 f4 at the moment. It would be to give me more scope on the D700. ie wider angle for wedding shots etc.:help:
I own 17-55 f2.8 dx
50 f1.4
70-200 f2.8

I had the 24-85 f3.5-4.5 AF-S lens, it was a cracking sharp lens with fast AF and far better than you might expect. I've also heard good things about the 28-105, but I needed the 24mm angle so haven't had any experience with that.

Why not sell 17-55 and buy a nikon 24-70 which will work just as well on the D300 and is better lens in terms of aperture, focus speed and optical quality than any of the other lenses mention. You can get a good used one for less than £1,000.
