I have not experienced this myself but have read of other people experiencing similar problems. It's likely you might of got a bit of grit in it. Might be best to send it for a service. Is it stiff?
I had a problem with my 24-70 a few years ago. I think the parts that locate in the helical screw inside the zoom go out of alignment. I sent mine to Fixation and it was all fixed (including a new grip) for around £100.
Make sure you mentioned what the problem & fix could be, because otherwise the standard fix is a new lens assembly which is about £650.
