Nikon 24-70 grinding

my 24-70 has started making a grinding noise when zooming between 50 and 70mm, has any body else experienced this and if so how did you sort it out?

Hi James,

I have not experienced this myself but have read of other people experiencing similar problems. It's likely you might of got a bit of grit in it. Might be best to send it for a service. Is it stiff?

seems to be quite a common problem, lots of you tube videos on stripping it down and sorting it

service centre i think is best - this is a costly lens and may be repaired under warrently.

As a rule of thumb nothing should sound like grinding (except a proper grinder of course ) Send it in for a service

Hi James,

I had a problem with my 24-70 a few years ago. I think the parts that locate in the helical screw inside the zoom go out of alignment. I sent mine to Fixation and it was all fixed (including a new grip) for around £100.

Make sure you mentioned what the problem & fix could be, because otherwise the standard fix is a new lens assembly which is about £650.
