Nikon 24-85 2.8-4 D AFS how good is it ?

I'm interested to know how this Nikon lens performs in the way of sharpness, and if anyone can compare it to a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8, i would be interested to know how you think they compare if you've used both, i have the Tamron myself, so know how good it is, but want some real term comparisons if possible please

i had the tamron 28-75 f2.8 on a sony a300 and loved it

now back to nikon with lens kit 18-105vr. the nikon and kit lens performs well, but considering the tamron for the nikon too

Anymore thoughts on Nikon 24-85

Old technology but good optics. Slow AF compared to later lenses like the 24-70mm but then again it's half the price. Build quality is good, as is the case with most AF-D lenses.

The Tamron 28-75 is probably better optically and so is the Sigma 24-70mm, but getting a good copy of the latter that focusses can be hard.

I'd deffo try the Nikon in a shop to get an idea if it's up to your expectations.

I honestly regret selling mine, it produced really warm pictures. I capture a lot of event photography and before I switched to My D2x with 17-55mm, it was constantly on My D200. For my kind of work I need fast focussing and this was the only issue I had, at times it would "hunt" and sometimes I could miss a perfect opportunity to capture that moment.

Build quality was good and had a really good copy of the lens, it was sharp and as I said it was producing much warmer photographs that my D2x and 17-55 (straight from the camera)

Apart from that you won't go wrong imo..

I get that on my 60mm AF-D and my 80-200mm AF-D but I think that's also down to the D200 being a bit iffy in low contrast situations.
