I'm using one on my D300. As soon as I get a little issue with iPhoto sorted out I'll post some shots to show strengths and weaknesses. Overall, I find the lens to be very good for landscapes, portraits and general photography, and not so good for cityscapes and similar endeavors.

I use one on my D3s. It's a very good lens for the range. The weight of the camera and lens doesn't bother me at all. (just for the record. 
)
I have let another member on here use it on his D90 for airshows and he has had some cracking shots from it!
I tend to use it as my holiday lens. Bit like the 18-200mm when i had it on my D300.

Here on some shots taken with the 28-300 VRII on a D300...please remember that publishing to the web softens the image a bit. I find the lens to be versatile, sharp and contrasty. As the professional reviewers have noted, though, there is a fair amount of distortion that becomes apparent in scenes with multiple horizontal and vertical straight edges. If you read consumer reviews, some people find it heavy and (unaccountably) slow to focus. I'm used to similar size/weight lenses, so the weight is not an issue for me. I certainly don't find it slow to focus (if I have my camera set up correctly.) While the lens was designed to be a counterpart to the 18-200, but for the FX cameras, I'm quite satisfied with the range on my DX sensor D300. I switch to a 17-55 lens or my 10.5 fisheye when I want wider. I once owned an 18-200, but found it a bit too soft at times, and the lens creep was annoying. Later versions have a lock, I believe, similar to the lock on the 28-300. So that helps. I've noticed no tendency of the 28-300 to creep, however, so that's a real plus.

I have one to use with a D700 and I've been extremely pleased with it, I have the 24-70mm/70-200mm/50mm but while the two zoom lenses are very good they were just too bulky for a walkaround setup. The GH1/14-140mm is a decent enough combo but the focus isn't great nor is the high iso when the light gets low so the D700 and 28-300mm is a good balance. Focus is surprisingly quick, the lens is heavy but smaller than the 24-70mm and I find the image quality coupled with the D700 sensor is decent. The performance doesn't seem great at 300mm but overall I've been pleased with the purchase.
