i have one of those. r u planning on using it on a dx or fx body? it's slightly tight on my d90 but should be a perfect walkabout lens on an fx.

Yip and possibly my next lens. Im just swaying up wether the 24-70 is worth the extra or not but with the 24-70 being newer i might feel safer using at wedding etc.

I got a used 24-70 (on a d3) and am staggered by the quality, images just pop.. if you have the cash get a new one for the piece if mind for the weddings. I recently moved to nikon from Canon and was worried that the lenses wouldnt be as good but I was very wrong...

Forgot about that bit. You can`t use old lenses for weddings Mark,get the 24-70........

What part of the post says you cant use old lenses...
I'm sure the 28 or the 24 are similar but why would you go for an older design lens if youve got the cash?

You didn`t. Not everyone has the cash for the latest gear and the marketing chaps speel about new lenses does not render the previous versions useless. I was trying to make the point,albeit flippantly, that one does not have to have the latest gear to take a decent photograph...
As an aside,I do wish that Nikon would announce some more new lenses, I could then fill my boots with very good secondhand lenses again....

Same here about selling it for the 24-70 as well - only smarties have the answer maybe :shrug:

If you cant afford the Nikon 24-70 then get the Nikon 28-70 - it is a cracker of a lens
