Nikon 300f4 WITH 2X TC

Does anyone know if the 2x TC will work in autofocus with a nIkon 300f4 prime?

Don't know about the AF but I think the results may be quite soft.
I have a 1.4 tc and am after a 1.7 but no further.

eh...? Depends on the TC - Nikon make a couple of variants - specific to the lens you want to put them on...we used to have older Nikon TC's in the stores, only to find they didn't work with the new gen. AF lenses - we have now replaced them with newer ones that do...

As I said to you in the other thread you have on this, a D300 will AF with a lens/TC combo up to f8, but its going to be slow and need good light to be accurate. The IQ will be rubbish.
