My Mk 1 300mm f/2.8 AFs came with 2 drop in filter attachments that take 52mm filters, I've been using a UV filter but now I want a CP filter

Nikons C-PL1L is the best part of £200 so I was wondering if anyone had tried one of the thin glass hoya filters in a standard holder

I know i'll need to take it out to adjust it rather than spinning a little wheel but once it's set I doubt that's going to be a problem, I just wondered if it's too thick to fit in

Oh and there's some things you just don't want to read on the internet, while searching for the best online price for the C-PL1L I found out currys sold them off 12 months ago for £9.97 as confirmed this afternoon by an assistant

"yeah they were £9.97 but we haven't got any, and according to the computer neither has anyone else "
 
Hmm the idea of not being able to adjust a CPL whilst its actually on the lens sounds a bit...useless tbh. Maybe a totally seperate filter system like Cokin might be an alternative? just a wild stab in the dark as I'm not familiar with that lens...
 
It's got a 105mm front element with no filter thread so the drop in filters are the only option unfortunately

I'd be using it mostly for motorsport to help with reflections from the glass so once it's set I don't see not being able to adjust it as too much of a problem :)
 
I've just ordered one today. It does hurt paying that much for it. But at the end of the day, once you've got it...

Buy the nikon. You got the lens for a good price :p and read up on how a CPL works. Hopefully see you saturday.
 
I know how a CPL works, I'm just being tight :D

I want someone to say spend £40 on a thin CP and it'll be fine but it's not going to happen
 
I've bought a D7000 now so it's going to have to wait a while

I really wish I hadn't see that post about currys selling them off for £9.97 :lol:
 
A bit of luck

I've been looking for a second hand C-PL1L for a few weeks, In that time because of the problems in Japan they've gone up about £40 so I decided to give it a miss.

One last google and one came up at Bristol Cameras £145 delivered

Came today and I'd swear it's new

Result :banana:
