Nikon 300mm f.4 Broke

My 300mm has stopped auto focussing. Just had a quote to get it fixed, about £300!!!! It needs a new SWM unit. :thumbsdown:
Cant decide what to do.
Any advice or input would be good. I know its my choice at the end of the day but others opinions are always good to see.

More expensive to replace than fix, best you can do is try an alternative quote.

I'm always of the opinion that if it's worth more fixed than not get it done.
You can then either keep it or sell it on.

who have you tried? Fixations in Vauxhall are worth a try if you haven't

I've had three Pentax lenses returned repaired - two due to dreaded AF (SDM) failure but the lenses were returned to me in a better than new state....

It is Fixation that have given the quote.

Its one of my most used lenses so if its not repaired it would need replacing.

Aperture do repairs as do a number of other independents.

Fixation fixed my 300mm for almost the same. But they take a lot of time!
