Hi Guys,

I bought new from wex 2 weeks ago the Nikon 300mm f/4 af-s, Since then I have been having problems with the lens sometimes the lens focusing sticks at 50ft and wont move from there, it makes a grinding sound when it trys to focus, I have this problem on avrage 3 times In a footy match it last for aboutn10 secomds each time them the lens works fine, should I be worried about this problem ? Also I can post a video with the noise on if needed, please help!!! Thanks in advance :)

Doesn't sound right to me. I used to have a Sony A500 camera which had a terrible habit of stripping lens gears, especially on Sigma lenses, that used to make a similar sound to what you are describing. I would be tempted to return it for a replacement under warranty as its only 2 weeks old before it gets worse and fails right at the worst possible moment, as these things tend to do.

Deffo not right, send it back.

If there is a grinding noise then send it back, thats not right. it could be something serious that could still work until it fails when the warranty finishes. I bought a used version that I returned straight away due to a squeaking AF motor. I then bought a new one, its nearly silent and the focus speed is quite rapid.

I think I have deciphered your post correctly. If you bought it new, send it back as soon as possible, like Monday.

The Nikon 300 F4 is super sharp, quiet and bloody fast to AF.

If yours is not, then there is a problem.

Yeah, sounds odd - that lens doesn't have a focus limiter does it? What AF mode was you shooting in? On all three of your bodies or just one in particular?
