Nikon 300mm f2.8 AF squeaking-is this really ok?

I've recently purchased a nikon 300mm f2.8 AF-s DII (last non vr version before the vr1) off ebay. I've been looking for one for a while as they don't seem to come up very often. When I received it today I tested it in the house and the AF squeaks when it moves over a long distance (close to infinity), I think this is the AF motor squeaking and probably means it's soon to fail (also doesn't help having squeaky AF with wildlife photography). The lens was described as 'in perfect working order', is the squeaky AF a costly repair?

I had a brand new AF motor in the 400mm f/2.8 (exact same motor) cost me over £600 but that included a new mount and aperture ring as well which i think was around £100, work was carried out by Nikon via Lehmnns and took over 8 bleeding weeks

Have a word with Rob_mac, he bought it off me and still has the service receipt and the cost might be broken down on that paperwork

Honest opinion, get rid.

Thanks Gary, I thought it would be costly and best to get rid of it. I messaged the seller about half an hour ago and asked to return the lens. If I get no joy then it will be going through ebay to get the money back.
