Ime sure i have read on this forum that some members use a none Nikon 1.4 converter with the 300 D af-s and get great results,can some one tell me which one please.

Sorry miss read it on my phone. The one you are think of is the kenko 1.4 teleconverter. I think they are around £90 used, the mk2 Nikon goes for around £170-180 so are about double the price. Even though it's double the price I've had plenty of use from my Nikon version, for me it was worth the extra as I've had it for around 4 years and have no need to replace it any time soon. If you are planning to keep it a long time it's worth the extra especially as it keeps the weather sealing too. The kenko isn't weather sealed so it affects the lens weather seal too.
 
Yes it will be the kenko, I've had one years ago and seemed ok but not in the same league as the Nikon, it moves a little when connected maybe to do with not having the rubber weather seal gasket to make it tight? The Nikon just sits tight and feels like it's part of the lens and much more quality feel to it. If it was me I'd take the Nikon but if cost really is an issue the kenko will be fine but I will end up with a Nikon eventually
 
I bought a Kenko one a few weeks ago, the PRO 300 dgx for £99.00 from speedgraphic, i fitted to the lens and body, it would take one shot then the vf would black, disconnected and cleaned contacts etc...tried again and still the same issue. when releasing the lens and tc from body i could hear a release type of sound as if something was snagging. I sent back and managed to get a mint nikon 1.4tcii of here, pleased to say its working fine.

Edit: forgot to add, Rich u8myufo, also had problems with the Kenko and D750, which i have.
