Hi, just a infra red remote control from ebay 'nikon' make that said it was for the 3100. i was dubious but it was only a few pounds. Have i made a mistake - does it work and how do you set it up? Thanks in advance

Id have kept your eyes open for the genuine nikon remote, they're normally under a tenner on ebay used.

When you get it, make sure you set the release mode to remote, either with or without a delay. A quick flick through the manual will tell you how. Then you just use it like a normal shutter button.

It works right out of the box, same with Canon cameras. Just make sure your camera is set to the remote receiver/shutter mode.

But yeah, don't get bum f'd buying from ebay, I went to Amazon for my remote shutter and I love it, i would actually recommend spending a few more ££ buying a remote with a warranty and also from a genuine seller JUST incase you end up buying a chinese alarm clock or something..
