Rite guys, I'm looking to add to my kit. Got a nikon D3100, kit lens (that will finally get replaced with either a sigma 17-70 or 17-50 with Xmas bonus), nikon 50 1.4, sigma 10-20, 70-300 & sb400 flash (witch will also be replaced at Xmas-not sure what with yet) but I keep looking at nikon 35 witch pop up for 90-100 or 140ish new, I love the 50 but sumtimes a bit close up when taking pics indoors. Now and friend of a friend has offered me a sigma 30 1.4 at £180 should I go for it over a nikon 35?

Nikon 35mm every time for me.
When I was on DX, I had one, and it was a versatile, fast, very sharp lens.
Although I haven't used the Sigma 30mm, I have seen a few threads saying people weren't that impressed given that it costs more.
I know it's 1.4, but that isn't that much faster than 1.8.
My money would go on the Nikon.

I preferred the slightly wider focal length and contrast of the Sigma but the Nikon is more reliable with AF. The AF may be because I was playing around with 1.4 and missing everything. However why bother with either if you will get a 2.8 zoom? Maybe get the zoom first. I barely use the 35 as good as it is because it never feels wide enough.

ive been talked into doin sum family xmas pics for for my wifes mum of all the grandkids and a friend has asked if id do sum pics of there my baby girl. so thought it may be useful with this and as u say if i decide that my 2.8 zoom takes over at xmas i can sell a 35 or this 30 ive been offered for the same sort of cash?
