Which is the better performer? I don't have a FX camera? The f1.8 is cheaper, will autofocus on my D40 but is not future proof if I go full frame. I also have a D2Hs and wondered if the F2 is a better lens as it's more expensive or is the F1.8 a better performer on my DX cameras? Thanks in advance.

I have the f2 and it's great. The f1.8 is meant to be sharper but I just can't see how that could be, mine is very sharp but then I am using it on a D300 DX format so maybe it makes a difference if at full frame...only guessing. I'm perfectly happy with mine and bought it as I intend to go FX. The f2 gives you more controls, aperture etc. that can be set by the lens and I think manual focussing, it is also not as plastcky. If you did get the f1.8 the resale value is pretty close to a secondhand f2 anyway and they come up often enough. You may also decide that you prefer a different focal length in FX, the 50mm for example.

Again I cant vouch for the f2, but I LOVE my f1.8. As philx1979 sais it really is crazy sharp. DOF can take a bit of getting used too though!

Seems you can't go wrong with either. Thanks very much for your replies. Good link, ryanboy.
