Nikon 35mm f2 opinions

After spending some time with my 50mm prime over the weekend gotta say it made me think about composition a lot more , although still suck lol. Fancy buying a few more primes but I just can't justify the new afs lens prices, so anyone care to share some views on he ole 35mm f2 d lens to partner my d700.

From what I can tell the 35 f2D isn't much cheaper than the newer 35/1.8G, and the latter is quite a bit sharper, especially wide open and in the corners. The bokeh is better on the f2D though. Focus speed should be roughly the same, though the 1.8G will obviously be quieter.

Both are fine lenses at the end of the day though and you can't go wrong with either one, but for my money the 1.8G is the better overall performer.

Unless you're gonna buy the 35mm f2 from MPB, I haven't seen it any cheaper than the f1.8 anywhere :/

Thanks for the reply, the G lens is DX only so not an option for me with the d700 being a fx camera. Was thinking of trying it out at a few weddings, for a few hundred pounds may be worth a trial

I didn't see the d700 either sorry. I think the f2 is about your only real option without spending a lot

No worries, trying to find samples of 35 f2 and d700 is proving difficult lol

IIRC the sensor used on the D700 is the same as on the D3, should be pretty similar.

I which case, yes, the 35/1.4 AF-S is quite a bit more

D700 + 35m F2 is a great combo. Bag one of the £129 MBP lenses while you can. I got one , the glue in the aperture lock switch comes out with ease . The one I have is in mint condition and you'd never know the glue was there.

Try and find an old manual focus one, cracking lens on the D700.

i had a Nikkor-H 50mm f2 pre-Ai on my D5000 for a wee while

just used a Weston Master V Exposure meter

a lovely lens with scalloped focus ring ...built like a proverbial.....

I used to own the 35 f2. Cracking lens for the money, v v sharp. Only thing I wasn't mad about was the bokeh. Highly recommend it though, so cheap aswell. Great focal length on full frame, I sold mine and missed it so recently bought the 35 f1.4 g!
