Hello All

My collegue in my office has introduced me to this wonderful forum and I feel I have to ask a question that I have not been able to find the answer to.

I have a Nikon 40x ( purchased to see if I can get on with DSLR and I love it ) I have the standard 18-55mm lens that came with it and now want to buy another lens. I am looking at the AF-S 55-200mm lens but would really like to know if there are any other compatible lens for the 40x that are made by other brands. I appreciate that I need to look at lenses that have inbuilt motors in the lens itself. But the more I dig the more confused I get and the less sure I will make the right choice

Any advise would be greatly appreciated :)

Kind regards

Simon

For the lens to be fully compatible (Meetering and auto focusing) you need to have Nikon AF-S or AF-I lenses, or Sigma's HSM lenses. Ive got a list of a lot of compatible ones at home that I have posted before, i'll see if I can dig it out from somewhere.:)

Ok so there is a large choice to be honest I am over whelmed with the response and the choice. Thank you for you help

Now is Sigma a lesser beast to Nikon e.g are the lenses cheaper quality or build or are they comparable.

Thank you for your help

Sigma are great if you're on a budget, and have some real gems in their product lineup. However the old adage "you get what you pay for" rings true, as with most things in life.

Just read reviews on the particular lens before you buy - some Sigmas are brilliant some are not so great - same with the Nikon ones.

Hello the information I have been provided while comprehsive has overwhelmed me somewhat and the lens I was going to buy

AFS 55-200mm IF ED VR now makes me doubt myself if that is the right lens to buy, I have now gone to bed and woken up after long hours into the night researching on the web thinking about the right lens.

As I am new to this and want to be able to be flexible at what I shoot and specialise later.

Any options or experience would be appricated with any examples of shots with the lens

My initial budget will be about £200-300
