Nikon 50mm 1.4 need lens hood

Do I need to a lens hood to get the best out of this lens, if so, which one (and should it be metal or rubber)?

if you mean the AF/S version it comes with a hood. For the AF/D I'd buy rubber

you need a hood? I haven't used one, shots are ok... perhaps might be a problem outside in sunshine, but this is the uk so... um not much of that here lol
