Hi Everyone,
I have been having an issue with the above lens for some time now on my D7000, D3 and D800e.
What I was seeing when attempting to focus the majority of time it only partially does so and then stops, moving only a tiny amount. For example going between a close object and one at distance of vice versa it sets off likes going to focus on the object but falls well short, if I pump the autofocus it moves in tiny increments towards where it should be focusing but rarely does it get there. I have checked all the contacts etc. and I am quite confident that I have never knocked or dropped it.
I took it to LCE the other day for them to look at it and it did the same, they then attempted to turn the focus ring manually and the distancing meter moves only a short amount and then stops but the focus ring continues to turn.... essentially it looks to be doing the same and that is getting stuck.
LCE said the cost of repair could be in the region of £150, if I'm honest the cost of repair vs. the cost of the lens vs. how much I use the lens is making think whether it might be worth it.
Has anyone come across this issue before and if so what did they do/what advice could they give?........ I am very tempted to get the screw driver out!
