Anyone reccomend this? Nikon 50mm f1.8 D AF Lens

Decent lens, go for it. I have the 50mm f/1.4 D, and it's stops on my D90, I don't bother with the Kit lens now.

I think the £100 on the F/1.8 will likely be the best £100 you spend on your camera.

Hand held f2.2 @ 60th/s with flash. Would have preferred natural light but
was taken in a dark dining area where he was asleep.

Nice. In what direction did you angle the flash?

He was in his pram in the corner of the room.

Flash was bounced off the ceiling. Nowhere near full power if I remember rightly.
