Nikon 50mm f1.8AF-D and AF-SG

Any of the nikon chaps got both, or tried both? Curious as to how they stack up against each other.
I have searched, but not found anything of worth (for real world shooting) really.

i use the 50mm AF-D because is cheap and give good optic. The G is pretty much the same optic but abit better in my eyes and is AF-S.

The price is much higher as well so i went for the 50 AF-D, but with entry body you got no choice apart from buying the AF-S if you want to use the AF function
 
I got a D300, so no worries on that front. And there seem to be some great deals at the moment on the D.
I also got s 35f2 D which i prefer over the 1.8 AF-S. So nt worried about old tech.
 
The 50 f1.8 AF-D is a very sharp lens and for the price you paying it simply can't go wrong .....
Also is a metal mount as well not like the canon 50mm f1.8 which is completely plastic ....
 
Cheers mate, I assume the build and sharpness is consistant (albeit I can understand a lemon now and then pops out)?
 
There are a couple of reviews. Consensus seems to be that while the AF-D is good, the AF-S is that little bit better at most things. I got mine a couple of months before the AF-S came out, and won't upgrade because I'm happy enough with the D. You can also find them for £70 or less used, which is great - you can abuse it without caring too much compared to some other lenses. That said, the AF-S isn't exactly expensive, so would depend on whether the improvement is worth £100.

I also got the 85 1.8 quite recently, so expect an AF-S version of that soon :p

Thats what I figured. Better, but not by enough to warrent the extra :thumbs:
 
Hi. I have had both and really cant see much diference in results between either. For general use anyway. The focus ring did bug me on the "D." As I hold the camera right where it is and the movement when it altered focus annoyed me. Ok I could have altered my grip but the ring does not move on the "G" when the the lens focuses.

Same thing happens with the 35 D too, so i`m used to that :thumbs:
