Nikon 50mm

Hi

A friend has just bought his wife a Nikon D3100 with kit lens for her birthday.

We got talking and he was asking about a 50mm prime - my knowledge of the Nikon system is limited - I seem to remember something about the lower spec bodies and certain Nikon lenses ???

Any help much appreciated, hope this makes sense ?

He will need an AF-S lens, the AF-D won't autofocus with the lower spec bodies

Bear in mind that if he's thinking about a 50mm lens in 35mm film format, on a 1.5 crop format Nikon that equates to more like a 35mm lens (to get the same angle of view). Which is why Nikon make just such a lens... and it's a cracker

To clarify, the 35mm f/1.8 I was referring to is an AF-S lens so will autofocus on all Nikon DSLRs. It's also a bit of a bargain at c. £180 new / £120 used.
