Hi TP

A friend of mine is looking to buy a D3100 or maybe a D5100. He's also looking at two lenses, both 50 primes.

D - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-50mm-...N4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1338908627&sr=8-13

G - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-AF-S-...AYAC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1338908771&sr=8-4

Personally I'd go with the G, regardless the difference.

He's asked me to give a definite answer on what the difference is (one a D, one a G) but I'm not sure I know exactly. I'm guessing the D will not AF on these bodies but the G will (?)

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Yes, it requires the lens to have the focus motor built-in (AF-S, HSM etc).

the D also has an aperture ring, the G does not
