Nikon 55-200 AFS VR £95 Amazon

Any thoughts on what this lens is like? It's a grey import but gets great reviews on Amazon. It's only 95 but is it any better than a stock lens? Apart from its shorter range, is it any better quality than my Tamron 70-300?

It is of the same quality as the standard kit lens, that is to say very good, but at a different focal length. For the money they are excellent and they would still be very good at twice that price.

At that price it is a bargain.

Just ordered one - I only have the kit lens for my 5300 at the moment and at that price I couldn't resist. This place is a bad influence!

I've ordered one as well. I'm hoping the glass it's even better than my Tamron. If not, I bet I could sell it on without loosing too much money.

Assuming you're not talking about the new VC then it is better (owned both).

You'll love it - it's a real nice lens...severely under rated IMO.

Thanks. I've used it once and it does seem to be a good lens. But until I use it side by side with my Tamron 70-300 I can't really compare yet.

Initial testings are good well worth the money focusing nice and quick. I had considered the cheaper Sigma and Tamron equivalents as I was just after a cheap as chips mid zoom but I'm glad I spent the £30 extra on the the Nikon.
