Nikon 55-300 VR vs 70-300 VR

Anyone any experience of the new 55-300 VR? I'm looking to get back that range, and obviously thought of just another 70-300 VR but if I can save around £100 for the same image quality..as from what I've heard the quality is excellent. So apart from the fact its more entry level build and lacks proper mf, what do you think? Is the Af noticeably slower than on the other, or is just a myth?

I was in the same situation around 2 months ago. In the end I went for the newer and cheaper 55-300mm VR and I can honestly say I am more than happy with it. The AF and the VR are more than adequate for what I needed it for; low level aviation photography.

for the price jacobs are doing it, the lens is a bargain. id be getting it if I had nikon
