Nikon 5500 (or alternatives)?

I've been looking for a camera that is good for some product photography and was going to start out with something inexpensive, like a Canon EOS 1300D. However, I keep upping my sites on what to buy, as I'd like to have a touchscreen amongst other things.

I am a bit of a beginner at all this but been doing loads of reading and scanning reviews. On dpreview, they seemed to talk highly of Nikon D5500 Review. However, there don't seem to be that many sites that sell this model. Has it been superseded or something?

It is still om the Nikon UK website as a current model so you may need to look a little harder. When I googled it it appeared on lots of online shopping sites.
