Am often finding I need a little more reach especially for candids and wedding ceremony photos. Looking at buying a used 70-200 2.8 vr i. It wont be my main lens and I'll only pull it out when that extra reach is needed (thanks to its weight). Question is does anyone use this lens still on full frame. I have a D610. Should I pay the extra (approx £300) for a used vr ii?

Do you really need the vr?
The vr I is a beautifully built lens, it’s getting on a bit and holds its value surprisingly well. Imo the vr ii is better but the focus breathing at the long end was a deal breaker for me.
I personally have the fl e model and it’s epic in every way. If you can’t go for that - I’d be looking at the tamron g2 for a vr lens or the af-d 80-200 2 touch - I love mine. It’s spectacular

Latest greatest FL E version is superb. Excellent VR, extremely good centre to edge sharpness at all FL's. Lovely thing.
