nikon 70-200 f4!!

i reckon Tokina is probably rubbing their hand wondering how much profit they should make on the 70-200 f4 which is why it is still not released yet.

seeing the Nikon's price they are probably laughing...reckon it will be retailing around 650-750 mark?

Oh I don't know about that. Their 50-135 2.8 is still £800 and doesn't have VR. And that's a DX format lens.

I don't really see what this lens offers apart from the lighter weight.

.....a better option would be glass from the third party manufacturers. ..... the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 O.S. It was superb when stopped down to f/4 .....

There are probably many folk that won't touch a 3rd party lens with a bargepole. Nikon are relying on that kind of brand loyalty where the buyer doesn't see the alternatives, just its own lenses and the one that fits the buyer's budget.

Is it me or lens price in UK is a bit high? Saw some posts on dpreview regarding the price of the lens. Some reckon 1000-1200 dollars which should be about 650-800 mark but you are right in that the dx range are still ridiculously expensive.

That 50-135 is a cracking lens but it is just too short and not wide enough. I remember I bought one in NY for 2/3 of price here and sold it second hand still got pretty much all my money back.

Maybe I should pick one up from states
