Nikon 70-200 FL

I currently have the VR2 and have a nagging itch to “upgrade” to the FL and thought I’d ask the many owners on here who have changed and wondering what they found with the newer FL. Does the lens perform much better, faster etc or is the hike in price barely worth it? I’d be interested here what owners think before I possibly pull the plug.

I tried it but couldn't get on with the zoom ring position, first use of a native f2.8 so couldn't comment on comparison with the VR2

What’s holding you back with the VR2?

The FL is sharper and has better af-c performance but it’s not like the VR2 is bad at either of those.

It depends on how you plan to use the lens....

If you're craving fast af then the new FL is worth it. It is sharper and doesn't have the focus breathing issues of the VRii - that may or may not be important to you.

It’ll be used for motorsport mainly so being faster helps. Yeah the VR2 is a capable lens but knowing there’s better out there is why we upgrade isn’t it?
