Nikon 70-200 lens plate

I have just bought a Nikon 70-200 VRII lens. I have a lens plate on the camera body to attach to an Arca Swiss head. Is it worth buying a lens plate so that I can attach the lens directly onto the head?

Just trying to make sure I understand your question - if you want to know whether you should use the 70-200 on a tripod, relying on the camera's plate, the answer is no, not a good idea. That's not a light lens, and you would surely get some kind of shake. Much better to have the extra lens plate so the weight of camera and lens is evenly balanced over the tripod. I bought a separate plate for my 70-200 and am very pleased with it.

I would say definitely get a spare lens plate, doesn't have to be an expensive one, just one that works. I wouldn't attach my camera with 70-200mm to a tripod because the weight distribution is so uneven that when my friend tripped over a tripod leg, it almost caused the whole tripod to fall =O
