Nikon 70-200 VR II hood issue

Hi

The lens hood on my 70-200 keeps coming off, I have lost one already and the second one also seems that it will fall off.

Anything I can do to ensure it stays put, apart from sticking it, which I do not want to do.

Thank you, problem is when putting it in the bag I need to turn the hood round, so tape option may not work unless if remove it after each use.

You can usually do that a few times before the stickiness wears off.

What I did for my 70-200 was get myself a collapsible screw in rubber hood. It's only short though, so not great as a shade but gives some protection to the front element. There may be longer ones.

It's heavier duty/stronger and doesn't collapse easily.

Thank you both will do some investigations. Just read an article about using the M77 with the 70-200 and the vignette especially when shooting at f2.8 which is what I mainly do.

If you don't use a petal hood (or a uselessly short one) you will get some vignetting at 70mm wide open. If you're not photographing blank walls or the sky I don't think it's that significant.

Is there damage to the fittings or something? The hood on mine has a release button and I've assumed it to be fairly solid compared to the 'click into place ones' I use normally.

Cannot see any damage to it or the lens, but something is not right with the clip.

Have ordered the M77 hopefully that work well.

Clip might be held in with screws that tend to unscrew and disappear after a few years of use. Same has happened with the hood on my 500/4E

You might be able to (one-up-from-a) bodge it by gently sliding a thin wedge at the fixed end of the springy bit that makes the hood click on. Try GENTLY with a cocktail stick as a proof of concept before using any glue!

Don't use it often but have lost one and the one I have one now, I nearly lost it at the weekend.

A rubber band or 2 and a length of fishing line could be pressed into service as a tether to prevent losing it.

@sk66 - Thank you for the suggestion on this. It came today and work well. There was a filter attached to it, just need to work out how I remove it, otherwise may just use it as it is.
