Thank you, problem is when putting it in the bag I need to turn the hood round, so tape option may not work unless if remove it after each use.I gaffer tape all my loose hoods to the lenses.

Thank you both will do some investigations. Just read an article about using the M77 with the 70-200 and the vignette especially when shooting at f2.8 which is what I mainly do.I've had similar to that and it split.
HiIs there damage to the fittings or something? The hood on mine has a release button and I've assumed it to be fairly solid compared to the 'click into place ones' I use normally.
